Who we are, what we do, and why we do it.


Deni Corbett

The School of Communications, exists because of the passion and dedication of its founder, Deni Corbett. Deni has committed her life to serving God and investing in youth; training and equipping them to serve God in all areas of their lives. By honing critical thinking skills, artistic talents and a Christian worldview, Deni’s hope is to raise up the next generation of culture-shapers.

Deni Corbett is a graduate of Asbury University and has an MA in Instructional Technology and Media. She is the Director of Teacher Training for Kingdom School Institute as well as the Program Director for SBACS [Southern Baptist Association of Christian Schools]. She also serves on the board of Ichthus Ministries.


Julie Hagan

Julie Hagan is, simply put, an incredible teacher.   Not only is she a master teacher technically; she is a true advocate for children and individualized student learning.   She has 25 years of teaching experience having taught in both Christian and public schools.   Julie has spent her career teaching and learning about reading and effective classroom strategies as an elementary and mixed media teacher. She works with educators as a consultant, leading workshops and conducting classroom demonstrations.  Both she and her husband have been active as leader/mentors in Special Olympics for over 20 years.   A graduate of Ohio State with an BA in Education, Julie and her family now reside in Florida.

Julie Hagan is a consultant through SBACS and is the author of The Reading Spa [a children's literature resource for K - 6th grade teachers].  She is also the creator & director of the Lit Trading Cards project for K - 6th grade classrooms.


Mary Kline

Mary Kline graduated from John Brown University with an BS in Elementary Education and has taught in public and Christian schools for over 27 years.  She also spent time homeschooling her own children when they were very young and she and her husband were traveling for World Vision.  Mary has taught first, fifth, and sixth grade, elementary library, and administrated a teacher reading resource program.   Not only is she a master teacher, her love of reading and teaching young children to read come from a personal place.  "Sharing my passion for reading and educational experience with teachers and parents is a joy!"

Mary co-teaches the Becoming a Kingdom Teacher course.   She also is the author of “Fireflies”, a monthly newsletter for parents of children in PK – 2nd grade.   As an SOC consultant for SBACS, Mary offers a session for parents inspiring them to read aloud to their children along with one that describes the reading process in an interactive format.  

 


Vanessa Rough

Vanessa graduated from Asbury University with a degree         Upon graduation she has worked

"I kind of have a little thing for children's books. My beautiful daughter Juliet shares this passion and we're hoping new baby sister Lucia will someday feel the same way. I write about our life and the books that inspire us."
