Silly Eagle Books

Welcome to Silly Eagle Books! My name is Vanessa and I am just a little bit obsessed with children's books. I love reading them, writing about them, and sharing them with others, in particular, with my preschool daughter, Juliet.

I started this blog as a place to record the reading journey we are taking as a family. Since becoming parents, my husband Ben and I have immersed ourselves in the wonderful world of children's literature. It's become part of our lives and has played a huge role in defining who we are as a family--we're learners, we're seekers, we're READERS.

I've loved books my entire life and have had more fun than I expected rediscovering my old childhood favorites and catching up on all that I have missed since "growing out of" kids books. We use books to teach our daughter, entertain her, and bond with her. We hope that she will always love reading and that it is an activity that we will enjoy together as a family for many years to come.

It's my hope that this record of our journey can inspire you to take your own reading adventure with your children. I want to share what we have experienced so that sitting down and reading with your own children is not something you have to do or that you just need to find time for, but that it can be easy, accessible, and most of all FUN.

daffodil craft

Our daffodils have bloomed outside, which makes me feel like spring is here. (Even though it has still been pretty cold.)

We made these daffodils last spring and they have lasted on my bookshelf all year. They look so happy and cheerful sitting there.

If you have a few pipe cleaners, some yellow tissue paper, and some cardstock or ribbon (for the centers), you can make some, too. Find directions here.

One of Lucia's favorite books lately has been I Am a Bunny . We read it at least 10 times a day. There's a beautiful page filled with daffodils.
Each page is breathtaking. I don't mind reading it all day long at all.

What books do your children ask you to read over and over again?
